Mother of Peace Outreach
The recent Donate a Pad Campaign to the girl Child was meant to help the girls at the Mother of Peace Orphanage and women at the Mtemwa Leprosy Centre with Sanitary Pads. The target was 100 packs, the campaign was so successful that we managed to exceed the target. The target was 100 packs, the campaign was so successful that we managed to exceed the target. We managed to raise a 110 packs and 53 packets of cotton. The cotton was for the Mtemwa Leprosy Centre for the daily treatment of the patients there.
15 representatives of the Royal Society Foundation Zimbabwe, travelled to Mtoko to present these offerings, we also had managed to acquire clothes for the children. The child councillor shared one of their challenges, which is to find foster homes for the children, so that they can get a feel of the life and environment outside the bosom of the orphanage. The real challenge comes after the kids have turned 18 years and they are required by law to leave the orphanage and start life elsewhere, which can be very difficult if the child has no idea what the world outside is like. I believe this is one issue we have to look into as Royal Society and find a way we can make it easier for these to kids to transition to life outside the orphanage.
Over-all the Mtoko Outreach was a great success, this was made possible because of the generous contributions from donors, member’s dedication and the relentless efforts of the event organisers.
